Arrowhead Game Studios is bringing Warhammer 40,000 to Helldivers 2 with a Legendary Warbond launching later this year, marking one of the most anticipated crossovers in the shooter's history.
The thematic fit between the two franchises has been obvious to fans since Helldivers 2's explosive debut. Both pit squads of expendable soldiers against overwhelming alien hordes while serving authoritarian regimes. In Helldivers 2's case, that means four players taking on the Automatons and Terminids. In Warhammer 40,000, Guardsmen of the Astra Militarum fight similar odds against Necrons and Tyranids.
Game director Mikael Eriksson confirmed the partnership at Warhammer Skulls 2026, emphasizing that the two worlds "fit perfectly together" and that the studio is "full of die hard Warhammer fans." Arrowhead has not detailed what the Warbond will include, promising more specifics in the coming months.
The crossover caps off years of internal interest and fan pressure. In interviews throughout 2024 and 2025, Helldivers 2's leadership repeatedly acknowledged Warhammer 40,000 as a dream collaboration. Production director Alex Bolle said last April that developers were actively discussing and proposing ideas, with mounting enthusiasm behind the scenes. Studio head Johan Pilestedt even listed Warhammer 40,000 alongside other beloved franchises like Aliens, Starship Troopers, and Terminator as intellectual properties he wanted to explore.
The announcement arrives as Helldivers 2 continues to draw millions of players and attract major licensing deals. Other crossovers have brought characters from franchises into the game, but Warhammer 40,000 represents a particularly natural partnership given the overlapping DNA of both properties.
Additional details are expected to surface as launch approaches later in 2026.
Author Emily Chen: "This is the crossover that should have happened in year one, and it's wild it took this long for the stars to align."
