Henry Cavill's passion for Warhammer 40,000 has earned him a gift worthy of the Emperor himself. While taking a break from filming the Highlander reboot in Poland, the actor who will shepherd Games Workshop's upcoming cinematic universe was presented with a Legio Custodes Battle Group box set by a local games store owner.
The Adeptus Custodes are the lore's most elite warriors, clad in golden armor and sworn to protect the Imperium of Man itself. They rank above even the genetically enhanced Space Marines in the Warhammer hierarchy. Cavill has long been vocal about his devotion to the faction, posting videos of his miniature painting work and casually displaying Horus Heresy books during his recovery from a leg injury sustained on the same Highlander shoot.
BenzOC, the store owner from Lodz, Poland, decided the gift was an obvious choice. In a Reddit post, he described the encounter as "a great experience" and said he wanted Cavill "to have some nice Warhammer memories from our city." The actor's delighted expression in the accompanying photo made clear the present landed exactly as intended.
The timing of the gift also carried extra weight. Cavill has been appointed to lead the adaptation of Warhammer 40,000 for Amazon, a deal announced over three years ago. Games Workshop cautioned fans in January to brace for a lengthy wait, with the company noting that Amazon controls the timeline for any announcements or releases. Despite the extended silence, anticipation among fans remains fever-pitch.
In June of last year, Cavill himself spoke about the appeal of the challenge. "It is a tricky IP, and a very complex IP, and that's what I love about it," he said, describing the adaptation as a "dream come true" despite being his first opportunity to control a project from the ground up. He emphasized his enjoyment in tackling the "complexity" and "nuance" required to translate the universe faithfully to screen.
The Highlander production also brought another reminder of Cavill's gaming roots. A fan presented him with a script from a Witcher spinoff, a nod to his three seasons playing Geralt of Rivia on Netflix and his well-documented love of CD Projekt Red's games. The gift made particular sense given that The Witcher originated in Poland as a novel series by Andrzej Sapkowski, connecting the actor's current film location to the fantasy world he helped bring to life.
Highlander itself remains undated but is actively filming. Set photos suggest a lean, kinetic reimagining styled along the lines of John Wick but armed with guns rather than assassin's precision. Cavill, fresh off playing Superman and Geralt, continues to accumulate projects that align with his deep personal interests in gaming and pop culture IP.
Author Emily Chen: "Cavill showing up on a Highlander set and leaving with a Golden God figure feels like the kind of wholesome nerd culture moment the internet actually got right."
