A new multiplayer horror game called Rock, Paper, Severed is heading to PC later this year, trading the innocent childhood pastime for a gruesome survival ordeal where every lost round carries a visceral price.
Developer Buzzin' Games has reimagined the classic hand game as a 1-4 player experience where losing isn't just about bragging rights. Each defeat costs a player a finger, escalating tension with every match as the body count of digits climbs. The developer describes the concept as "losing doesn't just mean defeat; it means sacrifice. Each wrong move costs players a finger, raising the stakes with every round in a tense battle of strategy, nerve, and survival."
The game's narrative spine centers on a mysterious figure called the Entity, a shadowy presence that orchestrates the deadly matches from above. Players are lured to the table with the prospect of redemption, the chance to absolve themselves of past sins through victory. But escape proves harder than entry. As rounds progress, memories surface and the true horror of the Entity's game unfolds, revealing what participants have actually agreed to.
Strategy forms the backbone of gameplay. Players will have access to different items and tools to outmaneuver their opponents while maintaining momentum. Each character sitting at the table brings their own backstory and reason for joining the deadly competition, adding layers to the multiplayer dynamics beyond simple hand gestures.
The title is currently available to wishlist on Steam for players interested in getting notified when it launches. The full release window remains pegged for sometime later this year, though Buzzin' Games has not yet announced a specific date.
Author Emily Chen: "Rock, Paper, Severed sounds like the kind of twisted party game that'll make your gaming group squirm, and frankly, that's exactly the point."
