A federal judge has released what is claimed to be Jeffrey Epstein's suicide note, placing the document into the court record on Wednesday after years of secrecy surrounding the financier's 2019 death in a Manhattan jail cell.
The unverified, undated note was unsealed by Judge Kenneth Karas in connection with a case involving Nicholas Tartaglione, Epstein's former cellmate, who previously told the New York Times he discovered the document.
Epstein was found dead in his cell while facing sex trafficking charges. His death was ruled a suicide, though online conspiracy theories proliferated in the years that followed. The Justice Department and FBI, now led by Kash Patel, conducted a review and concluded last July that Epstein had indeed taken his own life.
The release of the note marks a rare public disclosure from the closely guarded case that has generated intense scrutiny and speculation since Epstein's death nearly five years ago.
Author James Rodriguez: "The unsealing raises more questions than it answers, particularly given the note's lack of authentication and the persistent skepticism that continues to swirl around the circumstances of Epstein's death."
