Forza Horizon 6 splits graphics modes: 4K at 30fps or dynamic res at 60fps

Playground Games has laid out the technical specifications for Forza Horizon 6 on both Xbox Series X and Series S, giving players a clear choice between visual fidelity and frame rate when the game launches later this month.

On Xbox Series X, Quality mode delivers native 4K resolution locked at 30 frames per second. Those willing to trade some graphical polish for smoother motion can switch to Performance mode, which targets 4K but scales resolution dynamically to maintain a 60fps lock.

Xbox Series S owners face a more pronounced trade-off. Quality mode runs at 1440p with 30fps, while Performance mode drops to 1080p at 60fps. Both modes on the lesser hardware will dynamically adjust resolution as needed to hit their respective frame rate targets.

The mode breakdown arrived as part of a larger developer update that also detailed the game's audio lineup and several accessibility features players will have at launch. Playground confirmed nine radio stations will feature what the studio is calling the largest soundtrack in any Horizon title to date.

Players with a history in the Forza franchise will unlock loyalty rewards tied to their gaming history. Anyone whose Xbox GamerTag shows playtime in any Forza Horizon entry or 2021's Forza Motorsport will receive the cover car associated with that game, ranging from the original Horizon title through Forza Horizon 5 plus the Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray that graced Forza Motorsport's cover. You unlock these vehicles after completing the Tokyo City introductory race alongside Mei.

There's one notable substitution in that lineup. Forza Horizon 4's cover car was the 2018 McLaren Senna, but Playground has swapped it out for the 2016 Aston Martin Vulcan instead. The reason for the change remains unclear, though licensing complexities with road cars are well documented in the racing game space.

Author Emily Chen: "The Series X performance specs look solid, but that Series S drop to 1080p at 60fps is a real wake-up call for anyone expecting last-gen parity."
