Two Laras, Two Worlds: Video Game Icon Meets TV Stardom

Alix Wilton Regan is stepping into one of gaming's most recognizable roles. The veteran voice actor will portray Lara Croft across two upcoming video game projects, while Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner simultaneously takes on the character for Prime Video's live-action adaptation. The dual casting marks a notable shift in how the franchise is expanding across mediums.

Wilton Regan expressed genuine enthusiasm about the pairing, particularly regarding Turner's involvement. "I actually know Sophie personally and she will be the most perfect on-camera Lara Croft that you could imagine," she said. "She's going to be wonderful." The voice actor sees Turner as an inspired choice for television, noting that the role "did need another iconic British actress to take it on for the television series."

The comparison between performances does not concern Wilton Regan. "I feel fine with it," she explained. "I understand video games. I work predominantly in the video game world and I love it." She also acknowledged that audience reception will naturally diverge. "Some people will love my games, some people will hate them, some people will love the TV show, some people will hate it. That's okay. We're all entitled to like what we like to dislike."

On the gaming side, Crystal Dynamics and Amazon Game Studios are preparing two major releases. Tomb Raider: Catalyst, announced three years ago, arrives in 2027 across PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X and S. The studio also plans to release Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis this year, a reimagining of the original 1996 game built with Unreal Engine 5. Both titles feature Wilton Regan's take on the character, replacing Camilla Luddington, who voiced Lara throughout the 2013-2018 reboot trilogy.

Wilton Regan brings substantial voice acting credentials to the role. She has previously voiced the Female Inquisitor across two Dragon Age games, Samantha Traynor in Mass Effect 3, Alt Cunningham in Cyberpunk 2077, and Aya in Assassin's Creed Origins. A planned role as Joanna Dark in Microsoft's Perfect Dark reboot fell through when the studio canceled the project during widespread layoffs.

Turner's television interpretation received its first official showcase in January, with Amazon releasing a promotional image that leans directly into classic Lara iconography. The photo captures her in signature dual thigh holsters and red-tinted sunglasses. Phoebe Waller-Bridge, known for creating and starring in Fleabag, serves as the series creator, writer, executive producer, and co-showrunner alongside Chad Hodge of Good Behavior. Jonathan Van Tulleken, who directed Shōgun, is handling directorial duties.

Author Emily Chen: "The fact that Wilton Regan and Turner are clearly supportive of each other's takes on Lara says everything about how healthy this franchise revival could be, but television and games audiences have wildly different expectations for the same character, and that tension will define how both projects are received."
