Nintendo's ink-soaked shooter franchise is making a bold pivot with Splatoon Raiders, arriving July 23 on Switch 2. The game flips the series formula by centering on single-player raids rather than competitive multiplayer, though co-op play remains an option for up to four players online or locally.
Preorders are now available across major retailers. The physical cartridge costs $59.99 and includes the full game on the disc, not a download code. The digital version runs $49.99 through the Nintendo eShop, maintaining the $10 price gap Nintendo has standardized across Switch 2 titles at launch.
You play as a mechanic collaborating with Deep Cut, a band that apparently trades instruments for combat gear. The trio operates out of a mech suit while you venture across the Spirhalite Islands to raid enemy strongholds and battle waves of Salmonid foes. Along the way, you'll unlock new gadgets and ink-based weaponry while upgrading tech from your mechanic workshop. The action looks chaotic and inventive, echoing the absurd charm of Ratchet and Clank.
Three amiibo figures from the Splatoon universe are also up for preorder: Frye, Shiver, and Big Man, each priced at $24.99. Nintendo hasn't detailed what in-game benefits these figures unlock when scanned into the game.
Retailers offering preorders include Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop, Target, and Nintendo's official store. UK pricing sits at £49.99 for physical and £41.99 for digital versions.
Author Emily Chen: "A single-player Splatoon game feels risky, but the mech-suit raids and tech progression angles suggest Nintendo is willing to experiment with the formula in ways that could actually work."
