OpenAI is pulling the plug on four ChatGPT models on February 13, 2026, continuing a planned phase-out of older artificial intelligence systems.
The company will discontinue GPT-4o, GPT-4.1, GPT-4.1 mini, and OpenAI o4-mini from ChatGPT on that date. This comes alongside previously announced retirements of GPT-5 variants, which include the Instant, Thinking, and Pro versions.
The moves affect ChatGPT users but do not extend to OpenAI's API at this stage. Developers using the API will see no immediate changes to their access or functionality.
OpenAI has been methodically updating its model lineup as newer versions become available. The company typically phases out older models to consolidate its offerings and push users toward updated systems with improved capabilities.
Author Emily Chen: "OpenAI's strategy of retiring older models in batches is becoming routine, but it's worth noting they're still protecting API users from disruption while reorganizing the consumer side."
