Windrose, a cooperative pirate survival game from Kraken Express and Pocketpair Publishing, has sold 1 million copies in less than a week following its Early Access debut on PC.
The milestone came just six days after the game launched on Steam and Epic Games Store on April 14. The developer announced the achievement via a Steam update post, marking a significant validation for a title still in active development.
The sales surge coincides with a climbing player base. Steam's concurrent player count has reached 200,000, with peak concurrent numbers hitting 211,177 according to SteamDB at the time of the announcement. The game, previously titled Crosswind, launched to 'Very Positive' reviews on Steam.
In its development update, Kraken Express expressed gratitude for player support and patience as the team continues bug fixes and improvements. "Your support for the game is absolutely astonishing, and your patience while we are working on fixes is truly heart-warming," the studio said in a statement. The developer added that the team monitors player feedback across reviews, comments, videos, and streams as it shapes the game's future.
Windrose is pitched as a PvE survival adventure set during the Age of Piracy. Players can explore solo or team up with friends through cooperative multiplayer. The developers have set an ambitious timeline, targeting a full 1.0 release within 1.5 to 2.5 years, with plans to add approximately 50% more content before launch.
The game has already drawn strong early reception from players and critics alike, who highlighted its exploration mechanics and progression systems as standout features.
Author Emily Chen: "A 1 million copy launch in six days is extraordinary, and the staying power those concurrent players represent matters far more than the headline number."
