A mass shooting in Shreveport, Louisiana claimed the lives of eight children and left two adults in critical condition in what police are describing as a domestic violence incident.
Shamar Elkins opened fire on his own family, killing seven of his children along with another child. The victims ranged in age from one year old to approximately 12 years old. The children's mother and a second woman were both severely wounded and hospitalized in critical condition.
Shreveport police spokesperson Chris Bordelon confirmed the details of the shooting. A police pursuit of Elkins followed the initial incident, ending with his death.
Author James Rodriguez: "This case underscores the devastating intersection of domestic violence and access to firearms, turning a family home into a killing ground."
