Principal Disarms Gunman, Takes Bullet to the Leg

Surveillance footage from an Oklahoma high school captured the moment a principal tackled and disarmed a former student carrying two semi-automatic handguns. Kirk Moore, principal at Pauls Valley High School, was shot in the leg during the struggle but survived the encounter.

The incident unfolded when Victor Lee Hawkins, the alleged attacker, opened fire inside the school. Moore rushed toward the threat and physically engaged Hawkins, wrestling him to the ground. A staff member quickly arrived to assist, helping Moore subdue the gunman and strip him of both weapons before additional shots could be fired.

Moore sustained a gunshot wound to the leg but has since recovered and is in good health. Investigators confirmed that Hawkins had discharged several rounds during the confrontation before being disarmed.

Hawkins faces multiple charges, including shooting with intent to kill, feloniously pointing a firearm, and carrying a weapon to a public assembly. He is scheduled to appear in court on May 8.

Author James Rodriguez: "A principal running toward gunfire instead of away is the kind of instinctive heroism that stops tragedies from becoming massacres."
