Ubisoft's pirate-themed remake is reportedly heading for release on July 9, according to reporting from Insider Gaming, though the publisher has not yet officially confirmed the date.
The project, titled Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced, first surfaced in December when it appeared in a European PEGI ratings board listing. Ubisoft had already teased the remake's existence in March by releasing concept art for the reworked version of the 2013 original.
The timing aligns with a broader company strategy. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot signaled in June 2024 that remakes would be part of the publisher's future, noting that older Assassin's Creed titles contain "worlds that are still extremely rich" and worthy of modernization for contemporary audiences.
Ubisoft's Head of Content Jean Guesdon hinted at the project in a now-deleted March blog post, using the franchise's signature tagline while acknowledging swirling rumors. "Speculation around Assassin's Creed is not new, but it's worth repeating: 'Nothing is true. Everything is permitted.' Well, except in this case, some whispers have a little more wind in their sails," Guesdon wrote.
Black Flag originally launched over a decade ago and remains one of the most celebrated entries in the long-running series, celebrated for its pirate-focused narrative and open-world Caribbean setting. A full remake would mark a significant investment in revisiting franchise history rather than pushing forward with a new installment.
