Target is rolling out a sweeping merchandise offensive to commemorate three decades of Pokémon, unveiling a collection of more than 100 exclusive products spanning clothing, accessories, toys, and novelties. The retailer partnered directly with The Pokémon Company International on the line, which launches in two waves beginning May 2.
Wave 1 hits Target stores on May 2, with online availability kicking in the following morning at 8am Central Time. A second wave arrives June 6 in both channels. Target has not published an expiration date for the collection, instead tying its availability to inventory levels.
The bulk of the offering centers on apparel. Graphic tees, reversible jerseys, and a Kanto-themed jacket anchor the clothing side, with every design available in both children's and adult sizes. Pricing climbs at the upper end of the apparel range, where collectors can snag premium pieces tied to the region's iconic locations and characters.
Dig deeper into the catalog and the breadth expands considerably. Tumblers and water bottles let buyers either lock in a specific Pokémon or take a chance on gacha-style mystery boxes. Target also secured partnerships with established nostalgia-driven brands like Lip Smacker and Caboodles for co-branded products, including a full line of NatureWell fragrance mists tied to individual creatures.
Amy Sachtleben, senior director of licensing and promotions at The Pokémon Company International, framed the initiative as bridging generational appeal. "This collection is designed to bring that sense of fun and adventure into everyday life, with merchandise that appeals to both longtime Trainers as well as those who recently began their Pokémon journey," she said.
The timing arrives as the Pokémon Company accelerates its 30th-anniversary campaign across multiple fronts. Puma recently unveiled a series of Pokémon-themed sneaker designs, while the franchise rolled out refreshed branding for all creatures and re-released Fire Red and Leaf Green. Among major US mass retailers, Target stands alone in securing an official collaboration for the milestone.
Shoppers can browse the full lookbook on Target's website, sorting by product category or Pokémon type to navigate the collection. In-store events and giveaways are scheduled at select locations, though Target has not yet announced which sites will participate.
