Fortnite Players Can Now Sing Into Mics, Laufey Joins Festival Tomorrow

Fortnite is turning its Festival mode into a full karaoke experience. Starting tomorrow, April 16, players on PC and console will be able to sing along to tracks using compatible microphones, dramatically expanding what the music rhythm mode can do.

The jazz pop artist Laufey arrives with the new Festival season, bringing her hit "Madwoman" as a playable track. Players who subscribe to Fortnite Crew will unlock a Laufey skin and immediate access to the song, while a separate skin version and two additional tracks, "Tough Luck" and "Lover Girl," will be available in the in-game shop.

Beyond vocals, the update adds Pro Drums support, letting players connect Rock Band 4 or compatible MIDI drum kits directly to the game. A quality-of-life improvement also lets musicians move around while playing instruments in other Fortnite modes, eliminating the previous requirement to stay locked in place.

The patch arrives alongside two other major changes. Epic Games is making Save the World, the game's original player-versus-environment survival mode, completely free for all players. The battle royale also gets the next story chapter, keeping the main narrative campaign moving forward.

The timing reflects Epic's push to keep Fortnite constantly refreshed with new content, even as the studio navigates significant internal challenges. Last month, the company laid off roughly 1,000 employees. Despite the cuts, Epic is reportedly still developing a major Disney extraction shooter experience set to launch later this year, signaling confidence in the project despite ongoing restructuring.

Author Emily Chen: "The mic feature is exactly what Festival needed to feel genuinely different from rhythm games that came before it."
