Toy Story Invades Disney Lorcana with Sid Phillips, Aliens, and The Claw

Disney Lorcana is getting its first official Toy Story cards in the upcoming Wilds Unknown expansion, introducing a brand new card classification designed to reward players who fill their decks with playthings. The set arrives at local game stores May 8, with wider availability beginning May 15.

Six cards from the expansion are now public, headlined by Sid Phillips - Toy Surgeon, a Ruby glimmer that reflects the character's chaotic nature. Also included are Alien - True Believer, The Claw, Babyhead - Leader of Sid's Toys, Hand-In-The-Box - Sid's Toy, and Bouncing Ducky - Sid's Toy. Buzz Lightyear - On the Way has already been announced separately.

The new "Toy" classification marks a significant shift for the card game. Cards bearing this label grow stronger as more toys enter play, and many carry abilities that reduce casting costs or facilitate direct play to the field. Levi Dodd, Senior Game Designer at Ravensburger for Disney Lorcana, explained the mechanic's flexibility: toys synergize not only with each other but also with songs and other low-cost cards. Any card played for 2 ink or less counts toward toy abilities, opening up multiple deck-building paths.

Sid Phillips - Toy Surgeon exemplifies how the design team approached the Toy Story crossover. All of Sid's glimmers are Ruby colored, a nod to his unpredictable personality. His core ability allows him to banish characters, and a secondary effect grants lore whenever a Toy gets banished, directly translating his experimental nature into game mechanics. The toys accompanying Sid focus on recycling, sending destroyed pieces back into the deck, mirroring how the toys repair and help each other throughout the films.

The Wilds Unknown expansion also introduces cards from The Incredibles franchise, further expanding Lorcana beyond its initial Disney and Pixar roster. This represents one of the trading card game's largest content drops since launch.

Author Emily Chen: "Giving Toy Story its own card classification is a smart move, but the real test will be whether toys feel powerful enough to compete with established archetypes."
