Rockstar hack spills GTA Online money secrets, GTA 6 stays safe

Hackers from ShinyHunters have released financial data stolen from Rockstar Games, exposing revenue figures for the company's live service games while leaving the most sensitive information untouched.

The leaked numbers reveal that GTA Online significantly outearns Red Dead Online, a gap that reflects Rockstar's unequal investment in the two titles. PlayStation 5 emerges as the dominant platform for GTA Online, accounting for over half of the game's weekly earnings at roughly $4.486 million per week. PC players generate substantially less revenue, falling behind even PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in both player count and spending.

The data was first spotted by GTA Forums user Lexiture and subsequently reported by Kotaku. Despite the scale of the breach, one critical detail has remained protected: no Grand Theft Auto 6 information appears to have been compromised or leaked publicly.

The timing is noteworthy. GTA 6 is scheduled to launch this November exclusively on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, making the absence of any leaked material about the game particularly valuable to Rockstar ahead of the release window.

The revenue split across platforms underscores the console market's current hierarchy, with next-generation hardware significantly outpacing older systems. The disparity between PS5 and PC is striking, suggesting that despite the platform's technical capabilities, console players remain the primary revenue drivers for Rockstar's online ecosystem.

Author Emily Chen: "The real story here isn't what leaked, it's what didn't, and that's a massive win for Rockstar heading into GTA 6 launch season."
