Rose Lavelle made her 100th appearance for the United States count Saturday, scoring early and setting up another goal to lead the USMNT women past Japan 2-1 in San Jose.
Lavelle struck in the ninth minute from a set piece, then assisted Lindsey Heaps on a breakaway conversion in the 48th minute that gave the Americans a commanding two-goal cushion. The midfielder, earning her 119th cap overall, delivered a milestone performance in the opening match of a three-game series between the teams.
The victory extended the U.S. winning streak to 10 consecutive matches under coach Emma Hayes. Japan pulled one back but couldn't complete the comeback, with the final margin standing at 2-1 in favor of the hosts.
