Arc Raiders Flashpoint Update Adds Laser-Wielding Enemy and New High-Risk Map Mode

Embark Studios is rolling out its third major expansion for Arc Raiders tomorrow, March 31, bringing a fresh enemy type, a challenging new map condition, and a host of gameplay refinements to the co-op shooter across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S.

The centerpiece of the Flashpoint update is the Vaporizer, a drone-like Arc unit armed with lasers that hunts in packs. Unlike previous monthly additions—February's Firefly and Comet brought airborne and rolling threats respectively—the Vaporizer marks a more measured approach to enemy diversity, introducing just one new Arc this cycle.

The update expands the threat landscape indoors as well. The Shredder, a shotgun-burst enemy that earned the distinction of being Arc Raiders' deadliest Arc unit, will now spawn in Blue Gate, Buried City, Spaceport, and Dam Battlegrounds starting tomorrow.

New Challenges and Rewards

Flashpoint introduces Close Scrutiny, a map condition designed around high-stakes encounters. Players will face off against the Arc Assessor, a heavily guarded unit that drops rare components worth the fight. The mode positions itself as a risk-versus-reward proposition within the game's rotating selection of map events.

Arsenal additions include the Dolabra Energy Shotgun and Canto Sub-machine gun, while the new Surge Coil deployable creates an electrified perimeter for tactical defense. A fresh Player Project called High-Gain Antenna offers another progression path for earning rewards.

Embark has made meaningful adjustments to core systems. Scrappy, the companion mechanic, now lets players feed specific items to target their resource gathering more precisely. The crafting system has been streamlined to reduce downtime between raids, addressing a long-standing friction point in loadout preparation.

The cosmetic offering centers on the Wasp Hunter set, a $20 bundle that includes the outfit with four color variants, an Oxygen Tank backpack, a Scrappy helmet, a Raider Tool, and 2400 Raider Tokens. Three additional cosmetic packs—Brigade, Vanguard, and Nascosto sets—will release throughout April at unannounced times.

Flashpoint is the penultimate installment in a four-update roadmap that kicked off with January's Headwinds and February's Shrouded Sky. The final expansion, Riven Tides, arrives in April and is positioned as potentially the series' most substantial, with plans for a new map, a large Arc threat, another map condition, and an expedition window.
