Target's Switch 2 Game Sale Includes Pokémon Legends: Z-A—With a Catch

Target is running a limited-time promotion on Nintendo Switch games through April 4 that could save you $30 if you're willing to buy two titles at once. The "Buy 2, Save $30" deal applies to a selection of Switch 2 first-party releases and requires only a free Target Circle membership to redeem.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A qualifies for the discount, making it a timely opportunity for players still considering the October 2025 release. Both the Switch 2 and original Switch versions are eligible, though the original hardware version carries a $10 lower price tag before any discount kicks in.

The trade-off between versions may matter less than it once did. When IGN benchmarked Legends: Z-A at launch, the Switch 1 version proved more competent than expected. The recent Handheld Mode Boost update that Nintendo applied to first-generation Switch 1 titles running on Switch 2 hardware could sweeten the case for grabbing the cheaper SKU, depending on your hardware setup.

What Sets This Game Apart

IGN's review awarded Legends: Z-A an 8 out of 10, crediting Game Freak with finally finding its footing in Pokémon's transition to 3D gameplay. The studio overhauled the battle system entirely, swapping the turn-based formula for action-oriented combat that managed to feel both accessible and competitively viable. Lumiose City served as the setting, and while the visuals didn't dazzle, the writing, character work, and side content gave players compelling reasons to explore.

The reviewer noted that after several years of putting down Pokémon games with disappointment, Legends: Z-A rekindled enthusiasm for the series—at least enough to justify extended playtime.

That said, the title has since been overshadowed by Pokémon Pokopia, which launched later but hasn't been included in Target's current promotion.

To actually claim the $30 discount, you'll need to add two eligible games to your cart. Other Switch 2 releases participating in the sale include Donkey Kong Bananza, which earned IGN's rare perfect 10 rating, and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. For shoppers specifically hunting for Pokémon Legends: Z-A at a reduced price, pairing it with any of these titles unlocks the deal—assuming you have or create a free Target Circle account.
